Chapter 50 - Close The Windows

They spent the last part of the morning at the diner, when they are alerted by the bell on the door that someone is coming in. They all look up and see that it’s Liz.

Jon says quite loud, “Damn it, will she ever stop? Don’t look at her, if you do she’ll turn you into stone and then come over here to talk to us.”
“Ignore her.” Monica states, “She’s white trash and we don’t need her around us.”
Dave wonders, “I wonder if she’s looking for Alec?”
Jon jumps in and says, “Who gives a shit who she’s looking for. Don’t look at her, maybe she’ll go away?”
They were not so lucky. She approached the tables and all three guys acted like they were looking at and about to witness crazy. No one at that table wanted to talk to her, for any reason.
“Hi guys! How long have you been home? I heard the tour was a success, who do I talk to, to get paid?”
Jon blurts, “Get paid for what? Sluts are free.” The people at the table laugh and Liz just sees it as another invitation to talk.
“I was Alec’s stylist while on tour with him. I bought him jeans and jackets and I expect to be paid for it.”
Tico add his wise two cents, “Well Liz, why don’t you take it up with Alec? That concerns no one here.”
“He said that Jon had the money.”
“I do, for my band. Not some skank that fucked her way onto a tour bus.”
Monica was laughing but she felt that she needed to get this off her chest, “Remember that tour bus that you had to travel on? Well, they now have their own private jet and on that, there are no skanks involved.” and Monica continues to laugh. “Go, go find Alec - no one wants you here.”
“You’re just a bitter bitch Monica. You can stand the fact that I had Jon first and that you have my sloppy seconds.”
“Jokes on you Liz. He’s been tested for everything and he’s a-okay for me to fuck every night - as for sloppy seconds, do you think that maybe Alec is getting Jon’s?”
Tico and Dave have heard enough, and at the same time they said, “Liz, just go!” Both were loud and meant what they said. Everyone has said many more words than they should have, which kept her thinking it was okay to stand there even longer.
“When you see Alec, tell him I’m looking for my money.”
“Yeah, that won’t happen.” Jon blurts out to her, “Just go.”
Liz stands there and looks at Jon with a look of sadness. He can see it, but he’s quickly reminded of the affair and the pregnancy lie. “Why are you such an asshole?” Liz asks Jon, pretending to be dumb and unaware of why he’s being so mean. “Did I mean anything to you?”
Monica can’t stand it - she refuses to listen to another room, “God damn it Liz, get the hell out of here before I beat your ass again.” And she stands, “Get your skanky ass out of here before I lose my cool.” Jon sees that Monica was getting up and grabbed her arm. Monica looked at him and can see the please don’t do this, you’re pregnant look on his face.
Liz looks at all the faces seated at the table and says, “You’re all assholes.” and she walks away.
They all watch her to make sure that she leaves. After they talk about her for a few minutes, Jon slaps Monica’s leg and says, “We have to get going. Will either of you see Alec today?”
Tico responds, with his beer in his hand, “We have plans to rehearse at Richie’s, why?”
Jon reaches into his pocket and takes out the envelope with Alec written on it. “I know that she’s going over there, and I have too much going on to deal with more of her bullshit drama.” he hands the envelope to David, “Since you’re going to see him, do you mind giving it to him? I have to go to Richie’s now.”
Dave slides the envelope in his pocket and tells Jon, “Yeah, no problem.”
“Thanks. I really appreciate it.” Jon and Monica leave, with Jon stopping at the cashier to pay check for the table.
They get back in the car and head back towards home, but before Jon makes a turn off of 35 he asks Monica, “Is there something that you want to do?’
She looks at him and smiles, “The only thing that I want to do is YOU!”
He belly laughs over that. He knows and thanks God everyday that they have the relationship that they have. They are so happy together and they hide nothing. They are so open and so honest, he smiles when he thinks about it. His hand goes on her leg, “Seriously, is there something that you want to do while we’re out and about?”
“The house could use a few groceries. I stopped and got milk and juice, but that’s about it.”
“Okay, we’ll stop and pay Richie and then get some groceries. Are you okay with a night in?”
She winks at him and tells him, “I would love nothing more.” He winks back at her and then they finish the trip to Richie’s in silence.
When they arrive at Richie, he is in the driveway with his dad and it looks like they may be fighting. Richie and his Polish temper told Jon it was heated. He was very animated and they can hear what he’s saying to his dad, “Damn it dad, there’s my paycheck right there.” Pointing to the car that has just pulled in the driveway. Jon and Monica get out of the car and walk toward Richie and his father. Adam greets Monica first, “Hello beautiful, how are you? What brings you by?”
Monica hugs him and says “Hi Mr. Sambora - we are here on official band business. This is between them. I’m doing great. How are you and Mrs. Sambora doing?”
He shrugs his shoulders and says, “You should go in and say hi, I’m sure that she would appreciate it.” Monica looks over at Jon and Richie and can see that they are in a serious discussion. “I think I’ll go in and say hi. It was nice seeing you.” Monica leaves Mr. Sambora and goes in the house. Out the kitchen window she can see that Richie has been paid and that he’s now happy that he’s been paid for his service.
The two guys bullshit for a while when Monica can hear, MONICA!” She opens the side door and says, “What?”
“We can go. I’m done here, for now.” Jon informs her. Monica hugs and kisses Mrs. Sambora and tells her that she will stop by another time. Out the door she went, stopping to say goodbye to the Sambora men. When she’s done with that, she gets in the car and her and Jon leave to head to town, it was grocery time.
At the Perth Amboy Shop Rite, they do a quick run through and grab what they thought that they might need, or what they might want for their night locked in the house with just the two of them. Once they have everything put away, they retreat to the living room and catch a few of their reruns when Jon gets up and goes into the kitchen. Monica is engrossed in a episode of Miami Vice, even though it’s a rerun. She sees Jon in the kitchen, and asks him, “What are you doing babe?”
‘Making dinner, you still haven’t eaten.”
“What are you making?” she’s dying to know what he thinks he can make. She’s runs it through her head when it was the last time that she changed the batteries in her smoke detectors. She remembers, and she decided that she’s okay. “It better be good, I’m eating for two.” Jon can hear her laughter from the living room.
“I wanted some French toast. Do you want cinnamon in yours?” he yells from the kitchen, struggling to find where she keeps the things that he needs.
“That sounds great, thank you. Do you need some help?’ she asks, knowing that he will say no. He’ll burn her house down before he asks for help and Monica thinks that that’s funny.
After a lengthy time frame, she decides to see what’s up in the kitchen. Jon had gone quiet and she still didn’t have her food. When she enters the kitchen, she is greeted by Jon with a plate piled high with French toast, orange juice and coffee on a tray. “Go sit down.” He tells her. She turns around and reclaims her spot on the couch. He hands her the tray and disappears again. She watches him this time. He just goes in to get his tray and he meets her back in the living room where they start to eat and watch a movies called A Clockwork Orange.
Their night in, alone, was exactly like they had hoped it would be. They talked, played, showered and made love. Monica had never been more happy than she is right now to be in his arms with her head on his chest and in the safety of his arms. She knows that he loves her, even with the little heart tattoo.
