Chapter 37 - And they're off???

 

 

Packed for the tour and ready to go, Jon says his goodbyes to his parents and his brothers.  His mom was upset that he was leaving, but thrilled that his dreams were finally coming true.  She knows that he'll be safe and that they return in a few weeks, none the less, she still hugs him and kisses him goodbye.  "Have fun and call me every night." she says through the tears.

 

Jon hugs her and promises to call, hugs his dad and jumps into his car.  The guys are meeting at the airport and he's running behind.  Opening his car door, he looks back and says, "It's time to hit the road." and he waves back at his family that was bidding him farewell in the driveway.

 

Bon Jovi is on their way to the success that they have only dreamed and talked about.  The five of them meet up at the gate with their suitcases and their own personal bags of nerves.  All of their gear had been checked and sent a day before them, it should already be at the arena in Detroit.  At the gate, Jon walks up and sees Liz standing there with Alec.  He doesn't know how to act or even what to say.  The history between them was long over and the drama that played out between them wasn't anything that the whole band knew.

 

"What are you doing here?" he asks her, with a sound that made everyone take notice. 

 

Alec looks at Jon and then looks at Liz, "You two know each other?"  Alec is lost.

 

"I'm going to Detroit with Alec."  Liz snaps at Jon, trying to sound like she mattered.

 

"No you're not." Jon barks at her.  He stands in front of Liz and continues with, "You are not going to Detroit with us."

 

"Whoa, whoa - will one of you tell me what the hell is going on here?  Do you to know each other?" Alec asks, starting to get a little upset that Jon is talking to his girlfriend in that tone.

 

David and Richie are seated by the ramp door, Dave looks at Richie, Richie looks at Dave.  "I'd hate to be Liz right now."  David comments, Richie nodding in agreement.  "When Alec talked about a Liz, I had no idea it would be THIS Liz."

 

"You know her?"  Richie asks, sliding to the edge of a seat.  "Who is she?"

 

David laughs and informs Richie, "Jon and Liz dated for years.  They haven't been broken up for too long, in fact when he did dump her - she played the pregnant card on him."

 

"No shit?!?  What happened?" Richie was acting like a child being fed pieces of candy, waiting on the next good bite.  "No baby, I take it?"

 

David shakes his head, "No, no baby.  She lied to try to get him to take her back.  I guess she cheated on him when he was on vacation with his family and for whatever reason, she told him.  He dumped her and then she went all coo coo for a while."

 

Jon, tapping his foot on the floor with anger and nervous energy tells Alec, "We dated for years."

 

Alec takes a step back from Liz, "This is the Jon that you have bitched about for weeks?  This is the Jon that you loved so much and he broke your heart?" he gives her a look.

 

Liz, feeling that she has done nothing wrong admits to Alec, "Yes, this is the Jon that broke my heart.  But that was a long time ago, I'm over him.  I want to be with you, baby."  She walks toward Alec and reaches for his hand, "He's in the way way past."

 

"You had sex with him."  Alec blurts out, knowing that it sounded silly - but they were band mates, they were brothers.  "Why didn't you tell me that you dated our lead singer?"  He pulls his hand away, knowing that there was a code that he had broken.

 

"Listen, I don't care that you two are dating, but this chick isn't coming to Detroit with us."  Jon fluffs his feathers and tries to take charge.  "She doesn't need to be there or anywhere that we're going."  He looks at Alec and gives him the stink eye of his youth and adds, "She's not going."

 

Alec didn't like being told what he could or couldn't do - and he wasn't going to take Jon's bullying laying down.  Alec had feelings for Liz, it's just right now he's not sure what he's feeling.  They have been dating for several weeks and Alec has grown quite fond of her.  They were looking forward to spending some time together on the road - Liz was paying her own way.  She was able to do that because she was born with a golden spoon in her mouth.  "Jon, I'll take another flight with her, I would really like her to be there with me."  Alec dares to say. 

 

"Alec, she's not going on the road with us."  Jon answers back, this time up in Alec's face.  "She's not going."

 

"Yes she is."  Alec was lucky that Richie had just walked up and played interference. 

 

"Guys, this really doesn't have to go down like this." Richie chimes in.  "She just a woman, there is no reason to fight over her."

 

"There ain't nobody fucking fighting over her."  Jon says, "She doesn't need to go on the road with us.  HE doesn't need the distraction."

 

Feeling like she was being fought over and liking the attention that she was getting, Liz butts in and says, "I'm not going to distract him."  She tries to put her arm around Alec.  Standing there still face to face with Jon, Alec agrees, "She won't be a distraction."

 

Jon should have smoke coming out of his ears at this point seeing how pissed off he really is, he knows that she has calculated this from the beginning and it wasn't a coincidence that Liz just happens to be dating the bass player of his new band.  She's manipulative and deceitful - Jon hates people like that.  He didn't have the energy or the desire to fight about it anymore, after all - she can fly where ever she wants to and see Alec,, he can't stop it.  But he does tell them, "The first fucking time you're fucking late or anything gets fucked up - you're gone.  I'll find a new bassist on the road if I have to.  This chick is crazy and it's only a matter of time."  And he walks away.  He takes a seat next to David.

 

Alec was still standing there with Richie and Liz, he could see that Jon was pissed and he knows that he means what he said.  In fron of Richie, Alec tells Liz, "If you fuck this up for me, I'll leave your ass stranded in the middle of the god damn country, do I make myself clear?"

 

Liz nods her head yes, as she hears Richie speak, "You have a lot of nerve doing this.  You better not try any stupid shit, cause if Alec don't leave you in the middle of the country, I WILL.  And you better stay away from Jon."

 

Richie takes his leaves and joins David and Jon.  The three of them sit there and watch Liz explain herself to Alec.  "Alec must feel like an ass."  David mumbles.  "I'd be so pissed and so embarrassed if I was him."

 

Laughing, Richie adds, "Yeah, no shit."

 

"She's trouble, and I don't see this ending well."  Jon states.
