"I wanted to talk to you, and you were mean to me in front of your friends. You don't return my calls." Liz starts to cry and Jon is less than impressed with the events that just unfolded.
"Look, there isn't anything to talk about. What's it going to take for you to believe that? We're done." He tells her.
With tears rolling down her face and the ache in her heart she asks Jon, "Then what was the other night, Jon? It felt like we were together." She wimpers.
He's getting even more pissed off now. Not only did she invade his personal space by hiding in the backseat of his car, but he's also getting mad that she read more into the other night than what was there. "Liz, that was just sex. Nothing more, nothing less." And she cries even harder.
He starts to pace in a small circle, getting more and more upset. Because he, at one point, really cared for Liz. Thought that they may even get married. But her betrayal changed all of that.
"Liz, I tried to forgive and forget, but I can't. I can't look at you and not see you with my best friend. Goddamnit Liz, my best friend. Of all the people in Sayreville you pick my best friend? Maybe he's the one you need to be stalking." Standing in front of her, using his hands with his words, he continues with, "We are over! Please stop calling my house and bothering my mom." He gets in his car and drives away. Yes, he leaves her on the side of the road, but she's only a few blocks from home. She's still standing there crying when he sees he disappear from his rear view mirror. He didn't feel bad, he didn't feel sorry for her - he cared for her and she did this to him? He has no sympathy!
Jon arrives home a little after 1:00 am. Walking into the house, he sees his mom asleep on the couch. He walks over to her and gently shakes her, "Hey ma, go up to bed. I'm home."
Mrs B started awake and sees his Jon. "How long have you been home Jonny?"
"I just got home ma, go up to bed."
She sits up on the couch and asks Jon, "What time is it? How was your night, honey?"
Jon was in the kitchen grabbing a bottle of Pepsi when he answers her questions. "Well, it was great until Liz showed up at the Pony and caused a scene. And then she hid in the backseat of my car and scared the shit out of me. Ma, she's crazy!" Jon sits in the chair across from his mom. His mother is his best friend in the world and she is by far his biggest supporter. She knows that her Johnny has what it takes to be a star.
"What did she go to the Pony for?"
Jon laughs, "I think just to cause a scene. She doesn't understand why I can't and won't be with her. How can someone be so dense?" Sipping the Pepsi, he listens to his mom as she explains the crazy way that women act.
"She's going to see you with someone else before she can move on. Unless she finds someone first. But you really shouldn't worry about her. Just keep doing what you're doing as she'll eventually get the picture, and move on."
"Am I being too hard on her?
Jon's mom looks at her son and asks, "What would your father do if I did what Liz did?" And she sees her son process the question.
"Um, Pops would kill you. There would be no break up or scene." He replies.
"So, do you think you've been too hard on her?"
Jon stands up, getting ready to head up to bed, stopping to kiss his mother good night. She gives him a hug and a kiss and says, "You'll never be to famous or to old to kiss your mom goodnight! I love you Johnny."
"I love you too, ma. Good night." And he heads upstairs.
Once he's in his room, he flips on the radio and listens for a few minutes. But there isn't anything good on, so he turns it off ad turns the TV on. In the middle of the night, there isn't much on. He found a rerun of the A-Team and fell asleep watching that.
Love the how Carol waited up for him until he got home from his show.
ReplyDeleteLiz is going to be a problem for Jon, I just know it.
